Polyamide is a hygroscopic material. This material generally shows higher water absorption than other engineering plastics. This leads to dimensional changes to finished parts, a reduction in strength, and also to changes in electrical insulating characteristics. The degree of moisture absorption depends on the type of plastic and the ambient conditions such as temperature, humidity and contact time.

Ideal Storage Guidelines for PA6,6 Cable Ties

Due to the hygroscopic nature of polyamide, a type of plastic that absorbs and releases moisture, maintaining the appropriate moisture content in cable ties is vital. Typically, we recommend a moisture content of around 2.5% for the cable ties we utilize.

Once a cable tie product is opened, it should be used as promptly as possible, ideally within one shift, and any unused quantities should be returned to the original packaging. Hua Wei's original packaging is designed to keep the material's moisture content stable. If you find a pack of plastic cable ties that has been open for an extended period, consider adding a few drops of water before sealing it. The cable ties will absorb this moisture, self-regulating their moisture content.

The ideal storage conditions are those of the Central European standard climate: 23°C/73.4°F with 50% relative humidity. In areas of high humidity during the summer or in southern latitudes, PA66 material may absorb excess moisture, becoming overly saturated and possibly leading to difficulties in threading and cutting. Excessive saturation may also diminish the loop tensile performance of the ties. Conversely, in cold seasons or in dry, air-conditioned, and high-latitude areas, the low humidity might draw moisture out of the polyamide, rendering the cable ties brittle. Regularly adjusting the humidity to maintain performance is advisable. For instance, periodically misting to keep cable ties moist in cold and dry regions is a solution. However, for adjustments in moisture content, we recommend consulting our experts for more accurate and professional advice.

It's important not to store standard cable ties in places exposed to direct sunlight, such as windowsills. For environments exposed to sunlight, choose UV-resistant cable ties or PA12 solar UV application cable ties based on needs. Do not place standard cable ties near heat sources, such as heaters. For high-temperature environments, opt for heat-resistant or Teflon cable ties as needed. Avoid storing cable ties in places with constant temperature fluctuations, as continuous oscillations between overheating and cold can impact the plastic's structure, causing the cable ties to become brittle and difficult to use.

Additionally, besides proper storage of cable ties, it's important to note that the expected outdoor lifespan of standard nylon cable ties is 0.5-2 years. The lifespan of cable ties depends on various factors such as material, usage environment, and frequency. Generally, different types of cable ties have varying levels of durability. However, the actual lifespan can vary based on climate, latitude, and usage. Therefore, it is advisable to perform regular maintenance and replacement of cable ties. If the cable ties show clear signs of aging or damage, they should be replaced promptly.
